Presently from minimum data about 3 million adygs live abroad, while on a historical motherland them hardly more than 700 thousand. Places of compact resettlement of the adygs (Circassians) are the countries of the Middle East. This situation has developed in the course of the Caucasian war when a large part of the adygs (Circassians) ethnic group was forced to leave their homeland and settle in the Ottoman Empire. In this situation problems connected with the peculiarities of formation and development of the adygs (Circassians) diaspora are actualising.

The author of this article presents in summary form the results of research on the typology of diasporas, which made quite a reasoned conclusion that the adygs (Circassians) diaspora can be attributed to a single typological series, as the classic diaspora. This gives the possibility of studying the adygs (circassians) diaspora in the context of the criteria for determining diasporality and to identify the typical for the adygs (Circassians) diaspora characteristics.

According to scientists, the main, fundamental indicator of diasporality is to preserve collective memory. In this article, the author attempted to study this problem taking into account the influence of elements of the traditional culture of the adygs (Circassians), such as the nart epic and Circassian etiquette to maintain historical memory, and ethnic identification.

Specifically- the scientific part of the methodological framework was made up of the principles of science, historicism, and objectivity. Historical research methods were also used - retrospective, historical-typological, and concrete analysis. The theoretical basis of the study was the statements of well-known ethnologists and ethnosociologists.

The study of the problem concluded that over one and half a century's experience of its existence, the Circassian diaspora was able to demonstrate a unique example of preservation of collective memory, and ethnic identification.
