Abstract

The article introduces into scientific discourse and analyzes materials from the 2025 excavations at the Taskuduk site in the Northern Caspian region. The remains of a sub-rectangular dwelling structure measuring approximately 24 square meters and about 40 centimeters in depth were investigated. A hearth and a pit were documented. Inside the feature, pottery was discovered made of silt mixed with crushed mollusk shells and organic temper. The vessels have flat bases, occasionally of considerable thickness. Based on wall thickness, they are categorized into thin, medium, and thick. Several specimens exhibit comb-toothed scraping marks on their inner surfaces. In addition to jars and pots, low oval-shaped vessels were recovered. The upper parts of the vessels are straight, profiled, or inverted. An interior rim ledge is present on several rims. Notches are placed along flat or rounded rim edges. The ornamentation was executed using a comb-stamped, dragged-pitted technique with oval, triangular, and rectangular impressions. Undecorated vessels are rare. Paired punctures and pit impressions are particularly distinctive. Patterns are located on the upper and middle portions of the vessel surfaces, with compositions comprising combinations of horizontal and slanted rows, vertical zigzags, wavy lines, and meanders. The stone artifact assemblage consists of flint items made predominantly on flakes. Tool categories include end scrapers, side scrapers, and circular scrapers on flakes, symmetrical points, tanged points, retouched blades, grinding stones, pestles, and microliths. The latter are represented by backed trapezes. Three bone points were also recovered. Based on the totality of technical and typological features, these materials find parallels in late Neolithic Tenteksor-type complexes of the Northern Caspian region. Archaeozoological analysis identified exclusively non-domesticated animal species: saiga, aurochs, kulan, tarpan, among others. According to radiocarbon analysis performed on kulan bones, the occupation period of the site can be dated to approximately 6200 years BP.
